Michael J. Nelson is the former host and writer of the Emmy-nominated, Peabody Award-winning Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988). Since that time, he has appeared on numerous radio and TV shows, penned a regular column for TV Guide, and authored best-selling books for both HarperCollins and Abrams.
His first book, Mike Nelson's Movie Megacheese, thrilled critics, including Richard Schickel of Time Magazine.
Mike continues to work in all media and has just completed a commentary track to the hugely successful re-release of the classic Reefer Madness (1936) as well as Night of the Living Dead (1968), Carnival of Souls (1962) and The Little Shop of Horrors (1960). As a Promo and Copywriter, Michael has written many different types of custom, co-branded content, and commercials for upcoming blockbuster releases from Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures, Fox Studios, and many others. As a staff promo writer for Viacom, Michael won a Telly and Gold PromaxBDA Marketing Award for his work on 21 Jump Street commercials starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.
As a Performer, Michael starred in a national commercial for Lays Chips, several regional commercials, and appeared with Dwayne Johnson on the 2017 People's Choice Awards. Michael Raymond Nelson was born on March 29th, 1990 in Kansas City, Missouri to Matthew and Cherie Nelson. Growing up, Michael was always interested in how movies, games and music was made and produced. Entering into the industry as early as 2002, Michael read and studied everything he could get his hands on as a child. Running with a very slow computer at the time, he broke into the animation industry in 2004 when he was 14 years old, working on open projects for Blender 3D, and Autodesk Maya. Getting involved in his work allowed him to stray from the typical teen troubles, however they did find him still. At age 20, he moved from his parent's house in Lawrence, KS permanently to go out to California to begin his new life.
